Young People and Children First is a charity that is committed to supporting vulnerable care leavers with a home until they are ready for independent living. 🏠 Demand for the charity’s help exceeds their current capacity and it has ambitious plans to grow and help more young people. At 18 years old, (or as young as 16 if they leave school), ‘looked after children’ officially become care leavers, and the local council is longer their corporate parent. Many care leavers are not ready to live independently and often find themselves in unsuitable or dangerous accommodation. They do not have the financial support they require or the social network to assist them. A concerning number of these young people end up homeless, either immediately upon leaving care or later when they struggle with the lack of support available to them. Young People and Children First provides the practical and emotional support that many vulnerable care leavers need, to mature into happy independent adults.
